The nomination and selection process for deacons in the local church has often been without the church body's nor the prospective deacon's understanding of the qualifications or expectations of role. The writer developed a project within his local congregation designed to respond to these needs for the church, the prospective deacons, and their families. The pastor developed a pretest, posttest, accompanied by appropriate training, for all groups of participants. The result was that the church understood the qualifications of deacons prior to selection, and the deacons who were elected were trained for ministry and made an informed decision to serve.
