  • This project proposes that for Christians human suffering is not merely a 'problem,' but rather an ordeal through which God works for the salvation of humankind. Pastoral care should help people to encounter and experience God's saving activity in their suffering. In the twentieth century theodicy is still a struggle for the church. The project explores several theodicies, assesses their compatibility with Christian teaching, and analyzes their helpfulness in pastoral care.
