  • Moments with God is a research project which explores the nature of the battered woman's relationship with God and four phases of recovery, from resourcelessness toward resourcefulsness. The project utilizes qualitative methodology as three clergy women survivors of domestic violence are interviewed and complete written questionnaires. The results indicate that the relationship with God, which the woman experiences during the time of the abuse, is harsh and judgmental. Moving beyond the abuse, her God-image, the relationship with God, and her sense of self is transformed. Implications for pastoral psychotherapy are explored.
