  • This is a discovery project that assessed young Liberian immigrants between the ages of twelve and twenty, who had experienced the Liberian civil war or had lived in refugee camps in Africa as a result of that war. This project assessed their academic, social, and spiritual formation necessary to maintain their cultural identity as they adapt to the American culture to discover how to help improve their self-esteem, to teach healthy relationships, and teach freedom from the need to oppress, control, or to feel superior to others. The data collected and analyzed discovered that these young Liberians surveyed had good attitudes toward their race and national identity as Liberians. They feel loved by God and believed they are good persons. The civil war conditions and living conditions in refugee camps placed them behind academically and affected their social skills.
