  • The United States leads almost all other developed nations in its incidence of pregnancy among teenage girls. Although studies show that US girls are not more sexually active than girls from other nations, the American teenagers are more likely to become pregnant. This paper explores the sociological, psychological and theological reasons for this phenomena. It then proposes a client-centered Rogerian approach for counseling these teenagers. This approach appears to lead girls to make healthier choices for themselves. The thesis is based on the work of one counselor in the county adolescent clinics of Indianapolis, Indiana. It is illustrated with a case study which reflects the effect of this therapy.
