Abstract
  • This project includes two assessments of a local church's understanding of motivation and the ministries of the laity. It attempts to motivate the congregation through a four-part sermon series, a study and the implementation of a new lay ministry. The author learns that people are motivated to be involved in the ministries of the laity when: 1) they feel the tasks they are called to are worthy of their investment, will benefit others and are part of the mission of the church, 2) the motivation is positive, 3) their needs for achievement, affiliation and power are met, and 4) they personalize the organization's goals.
