- Abstract
- This project enlists couples serving in the US Coast Guard in an eight-hour marriage enrichment seminar designed to improve marital relationships by offering three communication tools: understanding personality types and how they function; learning how to use word pictures to bridge gaps in perception between men and women; and developing a Marriage Mission Statement that incorporates proactive, concrete ways to communicate mutual love and support. Couples complete an abridged, computerized version of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (QMBTI) at the beginning of the seminar and work toward composing the Marriage Mission Statement at the end; these exercises prove to be especially valuable in building stronger relationships through communication and interaction.
