- Abstract
- This project focuses on helping a church deal responsibly with inactive members. Lay visitors were recruited and engaged in ten training and supervisory sessions. During three months they visited active and inactive church members. Parables of Jesus provided a framework for understanding the visitations. Listening, caring, motivation and other pastoral skills were demonstrated, practiced and applied. Various problems and opportunities were encountered and dealt with in recruiting, motivating, and training visitors. It was concluded that such a program can have positive effects on both visitors and those visited, as well as promoting more responsible attitudes in the congregation.
