- History proves that working clergy or what would be considered modern day bivocational ministers have existed for as long as men and women have been commissioned by God to serve. In many faith communities, these types of clerics have been preferred because of their resemblance to everyday people. The purpose of this project is to reframe or present differently definitions of what bivocational clergy and ministries look like through analysis of denominational and local church statistical data, archival documents, and participant interviews. Through this study the author challenged they current common definitions of what it means and looks like to be bivocational; suggesting that these definitions complicate the possibility of developing sustained, healthy, whole and holistic ministries because they ultimately cheapen the value of ministry. By offering alternative perspectives the author aims to stretch the scope and refine the meaning of being bivocational.
