- This project uses a contextual pastoral theological method in exploring the phenomenon of self-mutilation. Both theological and psychological perspectives are brought to bear upon one complex life experience of cutting. Special attention is given to the subject of embodiment and to various schools of psychology, broadly construed, that understand physical well-being and psychological well-being as integrally related. These perspectives are brought into dialogue as they elucidate the story that unfolded in an interview with one former client who has cut. Out of this are developed features of a feminist pastoral theology of embodiment for those who self-mutilate and their caregivers.
