  • The thesis of this project is that church members contribute to the work of the church as an expression of their faith. The writer conducted personal interviews with fifteen church members from five different congregations of the Presbyterian Church, USA, and their senior or solo pastors. Selected churches were of various sizes and demographic situations. The research shows that there are many stated reasons why people give, that there are a variety of influences from childhood on, but that underlying all reasons, the strength, maturity, and understanding of one's faith is the predominant factor.
