  • This study examines the ability of a small West Texas congregation to respond to neo-Gnosticism's challenges to the deity of Christ and the historical, authoritative reliability of the connonical gospels. The Book of Jude is used as an example of dealing with Gnosticism's influence on the congregation. Then an historical analysis of Irenaeus's christology in his anti-Gnostic work shows the importance of affirming the deity of the historical Jesus when addressing Gnostic trends. This thesis concludes that the remedy for the congregation is to emphasize the historically grounded doctrine that Jesus Christ is the sui generis Son of God.
