  • The author contends there is a theological foundation for preaching that is capable of reaching across economic, cultural, gender and theological differences, based not on the countless variants of modern Christian theology, but rather on preaching relationship with God. Further, there are steps one goes through to be in a faithful and empowering relationship with God: wrestling, surrender, and congruence. Using pro-active research methods and various surveys among groups within the congregation, the research indicates that a preacher, over time, is capable of moving people into a closer relationship with God by preaching the process of wrestling, surrender and congruence.
