  • The thesis of this project is that the American theologian, philosopher, and missionary, Jonathan Edwards, leaves a legacy for mission that continues to this day. As a theologian of mission, Edwards' stubbornly optimistic vision of the future of the church on earth offered a goal toward which the first great era of Protestant mission strove. In his advocacy of the 'Concert for Prayer' movement, Edwards showed awareness of the spiritual dynamics of mission and of the vital connection between ecumenics and mission. As an interpreter of mission, Edwards popularized the missionary ideal through his Life of Brainerd.
