  • This project raised perspectives of Christian immigrants in the United States by developing a theology building process appropriate to the social, cultural, and multi-religious backgrounds of Lao refugees in Fresno, California. It then applied that theology for empowerment to improve sub-standard housing conditions for Lao. The research identified, described, and held in conversation three influential contexts of 'bamboo, borders, and bricks' for Lao theology, and applied these contexts to create Christian responses to poor housing through biblical and folk stories, re-worked housing rituals, and community organizing with artistic poetry, songs, and visuals. Response examples and resources were provided in print and CD format.
