Abstracto

The church is the gathered people of God called to become communities of moral discourse and action. The challenge for the people of God who work within the defense community, given the moral ambiguity of their work, is to break the silence imposed on discussing the meaning and significance of work; to begin to integrate faith and work; and to thereby pave the way for congregations to become communities of moral discourse and action. The thesis project consisted of interventions within the adult education program of a United Methodist church to initiate a dialogue on faith and work as an initial step toward moving the congregation toward the goal of becoming a community of moral disourse and action. Faithful ministry to those who live and work within the defense community requires linking pastoral care with the prophetic mandate to speak the Word of the Lord of peace with justice to enable the people to more closely integrate faith and work.
