- This project examines Carl Jung's treatment of the God archetype in Answer to Job for preaching the book of Job. The project explores the theological implications of Jung's effort to integrate the light and dark, the masculine and feminine, the conscious and unconscious aspects of the God image in treating the problem of evil. The project demonstrates how a monotheistic understanding of God might temper the dualistic tendency in the Christian tradition and thus bring wholeness to the individual's understanding of God, self, and community. Finally, the project discusses the effectiveness of five sermons on Job in articulating Jung's understanding of the God archetype for an East Texas United Methodist congregation.
