  • This project proposes the application of the narrative approach in providing pastoral care to Chinese immigrants in the United States. The author uses the metaphor of The Journey to the West, a popular Chinese classic novel, which is analogous to the current situation and perceptions of many Chinese immigrants searching for a better future in life in the United States. He integrates two primary elements as the foundational models of pastoral care: Jürgen Moltmann's Theology of Hope provides the underlying basis, with Andrew Lester's concept of Hope and Future as a major factor in this thesis. The case study demonstrates the application of the narrative approach in offering pastoral care to a Chinese couple who arrived in the United States to be reunited with their children and grandchildren.
