  • This project proposes that preachers can preach more effectively by using role preparation skills developed by actors in order to identify and understand personal experiences in relation to Scripture. To that end the project produces a handbook for preaching preparation and employs focus groups and an experiential survey to test the effectiveness of this homiletic method. Use of acting skills provides a deeper understanding and personal appropriation of Scripture, leads to a greater awareness of a congregation's experience of Scripture, and helps to make the homily's content more interesting and understandable.
