  • This project contends that the use of self-disclosure in preaching helps modern persons relate the Gospel to their lives. The study consists of a review of pertinent literature in the field of preaching, an examination of taped and published sermons, interviews with colleagues and four sessions with a committee of laypersons. The study results in a set of guidelines for pastors on the use of personal material in sermons. A committee of laypersons evaluates the initial guidelines with respect to clarity, organization and face validity. A third lay committee evaluates four sermons written according to the guidelines.
