  • The researcher worked from the hypothesis that church growth is dependent on a strong leader's ability to engage the congregation in making disciples. An Evangelism Plan was designed to increase the membership at Missionary Temple C. M. E. Church, Detroit, MI. Quantitative research methods analyzed ministry styles of successful pastors with growing churches and qualitative methods took the form of interviews with members, which tailored growth strategies. The Evangelism plan was developed but not implemented. During the development stage the members discovered that they were content with a small congregation and felt no compulsion to 'make disciples.'
