- Abstract
- The purpose of this project was to establish a mentoring program to aid in the assimilation of new members. A survey of the Deacons and newer members of the congregation, along with research in mentoring and assimilation, provided materials to the Deacons to design and oversee the program in the congregation. Results demonstrated that family ties and denominational loyalty are not enough. New members need supportive and caring relationships to stay connected to the local church. Those without relationships tended to become inactive or move to another congregation. Mentoring was also offered as a way to train future leadership.
