Abstract
  • This project was designed to integrate a desire of the laity for greater skills in visiting the hospitalized, shut-in, and bereaved, with a structured workshop to instill new skills and enhance existing skills in lay pastoral caregiving. Based on the love commandment, this project outlines a four-part workshop presented to the First Christian Church in Pawhuska, Oklahoma. Methodology entailed instruction, preparation for specific visits, with feedback and discussion to reflect on effectiveness of calls made and-or need for further istruction. The project participants reported new understandings and greater confidence in themselves as callers, and a desire for additional training in the future to sharpen skills and explore new areas of lay pastoral caregiving.
