Abstract
  • The project explores the dynamics needed for a Presbyterian church to grow and renew itself. The project develops a 'theological plumbline' or measuring guideline from the writings of the noted theologian Dr Juergen Moltmann, in order to establish an identity model for the church. In addition, a sociological-psychological survey is developed that replicates the Presbyterian Committee National Study of 1976 Examination of Membership Loss. The replicated study is applied to a pilot church, the United Church of Riverview, Michigan. The project concludes with a specific set of recommendations based on a theological model of the church and clear socio-psychological dynamics needed for church growth and renewal.
