Abstract
  • This project interviews individual members of two autonomous, independent congregations in order to identify and understand the emotions they experienced in confronting the moral failure of their pastors. By studying what these members felt and when they felt it, how the leaders of the congregations responded, and the lingering consequences of their loss of confidence, the project hopes to inform, direct, and encourage other congregations facing similar crises. When congregational leaders are enabled to confront the feelings of members more effectively, they may lead them to improved spiritual health and a recovery of commitment.
