  • This dissertation reflects the author's experience of a pastoral start-up, and the importance of planning the entry process well. Establishing entry goals is more important than one's preconceived ministry goals. Planning specific ways to get to know the people, their history, their community, and their particular vision of the congregation's mission within the community needs to precede articulating one's own vision for mission or the generic application of a mission imported from elsewhere. The author seeks a transition in the working relationship of pastor and congregation that moves from being pastor-centered to being mission-centered or, more broadly, Spirit-centered.
