- This project in ministry offers its thesis, research, and application in the format of an extended essay culminating in the foundation of a six-part outline of a retreat entitled, A journey with the mystics. Theological and biblical foundations based on the spirituality of Ignatius of Loyola in the context of his Spiritual exercises will be prioritized with complementary reading from the classic spiritual texts of three selected mystics: Hildegard of Bingen, Bernard of Clairvaux, and Julian of Norwich. This study supports the thesis that Ignatius, Hildegard, Bernard, and Julian are relevant spiritual companions who have the capacity to offer spiritual guidance to contemporary spiritual seekers who hope to articulate their own desires and longings for God.
