  • After a long pastorate, a congregation is showing signs of stagnation. Standard church renewal efforts have not moved the congregation from a numerical and financial plateau. This study describes how standard Presbyterian polity processes failed to provide for an open and honest dialogue with the congregation which can develop shared vision. This study describes how the processes of self-assessment and education worked to produce shared vision. The most important conclusion reached by this study is that building into the congregation's life multiple opportunities for dialogue, which is grounded upon Scripture and confirmed by reflection on experience, will provide opportunities for the Holy Spirit to bring energy and direction into a congregation's life.
