- The purpose of this paper is to address the question of whether supplying members of a congregation with a daily lectionary and suggestions for prayers, including the use of Luther's Small Catechism, would encourage them to maintain the practice of daily individual or household devotions. It was assumed that it would. Materials were prepared and circulated to members of the congregation. Prior to distribution of the materials, and again afterwards, participants were asked to respond to a questionnaire in which they reported their practice of individual or household devotions. The difference in responses were then used to measure changes in attitude. Results showed that more households practiced such devotions, thereby indicating that the availability of such materials is a positive factor in encouraging household and individual devotion.
