- As a result of relinquishment, adoptees carry a significant wound. Healing of this wound is often a long and painful journey. An important aspect of healing involves forgiveness. This project will provide a scriptural understanding of the God who forgives, as well as offer an overview of several texts that call God's people to both claim their forgiveness and as well as to forgive. The process of forgiveness will be explored and then applied to the unique situation of adoptees forgiving birth mothers. A group of ten adoptees, all of whom are people of faith, will be interviewed, providing insight into the wound of relinquishment as well as their own understanding and perspective on the process of forgiveness. This project underscores the importance of forgiveness in the lives of adoptees, as well as offers insight into the role of both the church and clergy as important partners in the process of forgiveness for all those touched by adoption.
