  • The author's thesis is that police chaplaincy provides a unique model of ecumenical ministry. His experiences in developing and writing programs for small towns, cities and state police provide background for the study. Principles and practices from a decade of full-time chaplaincy form the foundation for the reorganization of that program used as the model in this study. Reviewing aspects of policing in a community to describe the arena of ministry, the author shows how police chaplaincy is an outreach ministry of the local parish. He illustrates how this ministry functions both to and through police officers.
