Abstracto

The thesis posits the value of using Tillich's theology of culture and the arts as a way of approaching the fine arts to discover, clarify, or intensify religious meaning. Twelve persons explored literature, music, drama, and paintings using Tillich's theological categories of understanding to discuss and interpret religious meanings found in these art forms. This study indicates that persons can find greater religious meaning in the arts when using a clearly defined theological approach which affirms the integrity of the arts and encourages critical theological and artistic analysis. Participants indicated growth in personal faith and understanding.
