  • Responding to the recent growth of non-Western Christianity, missiologists are debating the need to contextualize not only the outward forms of the church, but theology itself. The idea of a 'self-theologizing' church is biblically grounded, yet it is still an unfamiliar practice for evangelicals. This project involved restructuring an undergraduate mission theology course to familiarize students with the need for theological contextualization, to give the experience in facilitating a 'hermeneutical community,' and to guide them in devising a personal theology of mission. Written and oral surveys, participant observation, and analysis of student work indicated partial achievement of course goals.
