Abstract
  • The project objective was to compose a step-by-step choice guide for primary survivors choosing arrangements for final care of the body and a service of worship, either a funeral or a memorial service. The guide also may be used in advance of death to provide survivors information about choices and preferences. Case studies of twenty-five people who, within the last three years, were primary survivors responsible for making arrangements were the principal data sources. The theological rationale is grounded in the biblical affirmations that God is with us and God suffers with us and that the Christian disciple, in turn, is called to be with and suffer with others.
