  • Research indicates that many new pastors feel unprepared for the rigors of weekly sermon preparation. This thesis-project proposes that novice pastors can become better communicators through mentoring relationships with seasoned preachers. When these relationships are not possible in a pastor's ministry setting, then distance sermon coaching--using telephone, e-mail, cassette tapes--can help pastors continue to improve homiletical skills. The project provides the theological and theoretical background for such an approach. The author presents his personal experiment with distance sermon coaching in the form of an article for publication, an manual for sermon coaches, and an evaluation from those mentored.
