Abstract
  • The study examines the ability of theological education to assess and promote the development of personal qualities for pastoral ministry. Analysis is made of the biblical prescriptive qualities and the descriptive qualities proposed by the Readiness for Ministry (ATS) project. A historical review of theological education in North America provides the background for determining the ingredients essential for contemporary theological training. This shows how personal qualities can be developed through faculty modeling, curriculum structure, field education experience and assessment, and awareness of the scriptural ideals complemented with feedback and counseling.
