  • Several researchers, sociologists, and Christian writers in the field of self-esteem have theorized that 'the higher the self-esteem, the more likely one will be successful.' This exploratory research was conducted to investigate the relationship between self-esteem, socioeconomic attainment and God-concept among African-American Baptists in East Baltimore. Self-esteem was not shown to have a statistically significant impact on overall socioeconomic attainment. The study did find a person's self-esteem to be strongly correlated to his or her perception of how God feels about him or her and that education plays a key role in socioeconomic attainment.
