  • This project was designed to explore the feasibility of training gifted lay leaders to provide pastoral guidance in the context of a busy church counseling ministry. The theological model for this training revolves around the Biblical term 'Paraclete', which is used in the Gospel of John. The three key attributes of the Paraclete, and thus the core curriculum for the training process are: 1) support and therapeutic alliance, 2) spiritual direction, and 3) effective prophetic confrontation. This project incorporated a 'program-program evaluation' research methodology. results were clear that those who were trained and the people with whom they journeyed were benefited.
