- This thesis explores preaching in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) The focus is on the PC(USA) using the metaphor of the church in exile in American culture. The research methods include social-theological reflection on the role of the PC(USA) in the current culture, biblical reflection on the proclamations of II Isaiah, and interviews with PC(USA) clergy. The implication is that clergy are aware of the shifts in American culture, the diminishing role of the church, and the impact upon congregations. These clergy preach hope and trust in God to the congregations they love and serve.
