  • This thesis describes an action in ministry with a congregation undergoing a major transition and loss in its corporate life. A specific focus is put upon grief as expressed individually and corporately. Research was done with individuals and the congregation as a whole. A qualitative approach was used, blending the themes of grounded theory and participant observation. Specific methods included a journal, conversational interviews, and liturgical services. Positive results were gained from having individuals and the congregation deal purposefully with their grief rather than denying its reality. The congregation, for the most part, remained cohesive and thus was prepared to venture into new life.
