  • This paper introduces the belief that the church in general and clergy in particular have a special opportunity to intervene successfully in cases of domestic violence. The hypothesis is that certain God representations are used to form beliefs that put persons at risk as either victims or perpetrators of family violence. The paper uses two case studies to focus on three aspects of domestic violence: the physical, the psychological, and the sexual. Rizzuto's God and Family Questionnaires are a diagnostic tool in this study. This paper concludes that certain God representations do create and sustain domestic violence.
