  • This project was designed to nurture within the minds of leaders of the Pilgrim Rest (PR) Church a biblical perspective of the Greek term doulos in relation to Christ. I proposed that doulos be translated slave based on the Pauline assessment and modeling of this biblical doctrine. Relevant data was gathered using a mixed-method approach to equip PR to parallel two motifs or models: slaves of Christ with slaves to sin who support the prosperity gospel heresy. The slave language was challenging as PR consists of offspring of American slaves. Yet PR leaders agreed to participate in this project to dispel misunderstanding and encourage an examination of biblical teaching on this avoided topic. Lessons learned included comprehending how everlasting freedom for all human slaves to sin is obtained only by willingly becoming Christ's slaves.
