- The purpose of this study is to create, implement, and evaluate a three year practical ministry-program for new pastors that would help establish a support system and develop basic relational and management skills that would promote good leadership. The content addressed issues of administration/management, leadership, and relationship using four dimensions: retreat, mentor, small group, and supervision. The participants were the 2000 class of probationary members of the Florida Conference UMC. The results indicate the need for training in administrative and relationship skills. The program helped to establish supportive peer relationships among the new clergy.
