  • The project focused on training urban pastors in Deliverance Church Uganda in a biblical and contextually relevant manner to transform their congregations from decline to health and growth. A training manual for pastors and elders of DCU Kampala cluster of churches was developed following an investigation of Scripture and a literature review on pertinent subjects. Contextualization was attempted by integrating Ugandan stories, illustrations, case studies, examples, words, figures of speech, and cultural values and norms into the training materials and the implementation process, without compromising the precedence of Scripture. Lead pastors were challenged to design and implement a 52-week program for transforming their congregations and to do so under the mentorship of the author for the first six months. Questionnaires were used to evaluate the training materials and mentoring period. Results show that the trainees acquired valuable knowledge and skills, were motivated and challenged, and, in some cases, felt that they were given a fresh lease of life. The lead pastors are cultivating an outward focus in their mission and vision, with a view of transforming their communities with the gospel.
