Abstract
  • Based on phenomenological research, findings suggest that spiritual companionship, enhanced through individuals' shared practice of particular spiritual disciplines, deepens the spiritual growth of members of small groups within a congregation. In particular, a storied way of Lectio Divina successfully cultivates a deeper relationship with God, and an increased sensitivity to God's work in individual lives. As group members, ranging from new believers to mature Christ followers, share these life stories with one another, spiritual companionship deepens. In turn, this deepened spiritual companionship encourages mutual edification toward Christlikeness, and provides further contribution to a greater understanding of discipleship within the congregation.
