Abstract
  • This paper seeks to provide for preachers and congregations a theological and practical foundation upon which substantive habits of prayer in relation to preaching can be built. This paper first develops a theology of petitionary prayer, especially the significance of praying according to the will of God. This theology of petitionary prayer is then applied to the ministry of preaching, using Paul's letters to Timothy as foundational teaching concerning the will of God in relation to preaching. This paper advocates a series of spiritual disciplines for cultivating healthy habits of prayer in relation to preaching.
