Abstract
  • Most Christians who have been shaped by the Western perspective have been taught little of the historic roots and diversity of the ancient churches of the East. This video contains a summary of the history of Eastern churches and a theological analysis of Christianity and cultures. The video discusses the importance of the four Patriarchal cities of Jerusalem, Antioch, Alexandria and Constantinople. A common view of the means of salvation in the Eastern churches is given with particular emphasis on baptism, chrismation and Eucharist. Lastly, the three main groups in Eastern churches (Oriental Orthodox, the (Byzantine) Orthodox, and the varied Eastern Catholic churches) are described. The video closes with an invitation to the viewer to experience Eastern worship by attending the nearest Eastern Catholic or Orthodox church.
