  • The Second Vatican Council document, Lumen gentium, asserts that parents are to be first preachers to their children. This thesis project addressed this unexpected claim by acknowledging parents as ecclesial leaders of the domestic church and by equipping parents with the practical tools to preach in the home. A preaching method was created based on Mary Catherine Hilkert's work, Naming Grace: Preaching and the Sacramental Imagination. Qualitative research concluded that parents were empowered to preach in the home through this method. The final product included a workshop guide and A Parent's Preaching Guide for Advent and Christmas, Year A.
