  • Unemployment in many countries of the world is assuming a significant place in people's lives. It is a concern that many churches have not come to terms with. In Australia unemployment was a major concern in the early part of the 1980's. This study looks at one major industrial city, namely, Wollongong in N.S.W. and considers the responsibility of the church to do ministry with the unemployed. It raises the preliminary issues of consciousness raising within the church on the issues of unemployment. It looks at economic, sociological, and theological aspects of unemployment and then proceeds to use the process of structural analysis as a tool in a workshop situation. The process of doing theology receives considerable attention because it represents a biblical and theological framework for shaping ministry with the unemployed.
