Abstract
  • The author explored the ways in which the arts can have a transformative effect on a small church. A wide range of artistic media was introduced into the worship, education and spiritual formation activities of the Gateway Christian Church, of Los Angeles, California. These media included the visual arts, drama, photography and multimedia presentations. The impact of the arts was evaluated through questionnaires, personal interviews and direct observations. Spiritual formation, as measured by increased hospitality and inclusiveness, was positively impacted by the project. The average worship attendance increased by thirty-one percent during the period of the project.
